A Secret, Sylvia Beach and a Bookshop
17 December 2010
I have a little secret to tell you. For a very long time, my dream has been to be Sylvia Beach when I grow up. I always adored the whole American expat in Paris thing, but more than that, for me Beach was a quiet, organic literary movement onto herself. She did most of her literary magic (bringing together mind blowing talent) in her bookshop: Shakespeare and Co. So when that same bookshop emailed us the other day asking for copies of Tree of Codes, well, I was beside myself.
They’ve been absolutely wonderful and have sent us these photos, which feel almost too good to be true.
So thank you, Shakespeare and Co. for keeping a dot of that romanticism alive and well. And thank you for including Tree of Codes as part of that dream in Paris.
It’s made us feel incredibly proud and even a little overwhelming. No, actually, very overwhelming. In the best possible way…
